Dr. Richardson is an interdisciplinary researcher focused on evaluating the validity of developmental theories as well as theoretical constructs and scores used to measure them. He has tested theories suggesting that early stressful experiences (or adversity) and family structure (including father absence) play key roles in the developmental trajectories people follow. He has evaluated measures of many constructs including, but not limited to, alcohol use disorder recovery, perceptions of alcohol users, multicultural competence, life history strategies, personality traits, and trait emotional intelligence. In the counseling field, Dr. Richardson serves as statistical advisor and handling editor at Addiction Research and Theory, associate editor at Counseling Outcome Research and Evaluation, and editorial board member at Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development.
